Learn More About Ken
Hello, my name is Ken Compton. And I own Southern Home Inspection Services in Atlanta, Georgia. www.weinspect4u.com.
Here's What I've Accomplished So Far…
We Are On Track To Exceed The $2,000,000.00 In Now, I'm Not Sharing This Information With You So That You Can See What's Possible For Your Own Since I Wasn't A Home Inspector When In 1996 I bought a new home (because I had to quit claim my old home over to my ex-wife -- but that's another story) ;-) Anyway, I had a home inspection done on the new house I was buying. Then a few months later I bought a second home in the North Georgia Mountains. I called the same Inspector to do that inspection because he had done a great job on my primary residence (he was knowledgeable, informative and very personable -- I was impressed). During the course of conversation of both home inspections, the Inspector told me that the inspection business was a tough one. He said when he was marketing his business he wasn't inspecting and when he was inspecting he wasn't marketing his business. So his revenue wasn't consistent from month to month. He'd been in the business several years and he still faced that same challenge. I Could Help I shared with the Inspector that My Company bought Georgia based service businesses that were struggling, for whatever reason. I let him know that we would be interested in talking with him about an acquisition of his firm. He agreed to talk and I moved forward with my due diligence about his firm and the home inspection business in Georgia. We were never able to come to terms, so I closed my file on the acquisition of his firm. However, what I didn't close my file on was the Home Inspection Business. During the months of research about the Home Inspection Business I learned a lot of interesting things. What I Learned The market was comprised mostly of one man shops; the inspectors primarily answered their own phones even when they were on the job; a lot of inspectors weren't qualified to do both new construction inspections and inspections on residential re-sales; most home inspection companies were not doing EIFS inspections; also, the real estate community had several significant complaints about the home inspection business as it was in 1997. Here's What I Did The company I sold in 1996, I started with no business and no employees and built it into a multi-million dollar firm in four and a half years. Marketing Is Marketing I felt confident I could use the same Marketing Skills that I used to build my prior company, to build a top notch multi-inspector home inspection firm. So, I called my old head hunter (personnel recruiter) :-) Jim and put him to work finding me some suitable Inspector candidates to interview. We immediately hired one EDI Certified Stucco Inspector and two Seasoned Home Inspectors. After our initial hires, we trained several people to be Home Inspectors. In January of 1998, Southern Home Inspection Services was launched. And even though some of my new employees let me down, my Marketing Skills did not! (PS: In 2002 I got certified as a home inspector and now I work both sides of the business)
